A browlift creates a more youthful, relaxed appearance for patients with drooping or lines across their forehead. As one of the most expressive features on the face, wrinkles around the eyes can add significant aging to your appearance and leave you looking angry and tired as well. Through a simple, safe and minimally invasive procedure, patients can restore their original appearance and enjoy renewed self-confidence as well.
A browlift is ideal for anyone with lined or inelastic skin on the forehead, whether it’s caused by muscle activity or inherited conditions. It is most commonly performed on patients between the ages of 40 and 60 to counteract the effects of aging.
Browlifts may be performed in one of two ways: with conventional methods, in which the incision is hidden beneath the hairline; or within an endoscope, in which a tiny camera and instruments are inserted through a few small incisions. Both techniques produce similar results.
Your surgeon will discuss these options with you in detail in order to determine which one is right for you. The browlift procedure usually takes one to two hours to perform and is done under IV sedation or twilight anesthesia. Patients can return home the same day.
Traditional browlift: An incision is made behind the hairline stretching between the ears across the top of the forehead. The incision may be placed further back or made along the skull bone joints to minimize visibility in patients with thinning hair or those who are bald. The forehead skin is then lifted, tissue is removed and muscles are adjusted. The eyebrows may be lifted as well. Excess skin is trimmed and the incision is closed with stitches or clips.
Endoscopic browlift: Three to five short incisions (less than an inch long) are made behind the hairline. The endoscope is placed in one of the incisions so that the surgeon can see beneath the skin without having to make a large incision, while the skin is lifted and the muscles are adjusted through the other incisions. If the eyebrows are lifted, they will be stitched into place.
Recovery from a browlift can vary depending on which type of procedure was performed, but most patients are on their feet and able to wash their hair after a day or two. There may be some numbness, discomfort and swelling around the incision areas. Stitches or staples are usually removed within a week. You will likely be able to return to work or school in 7 to 10 days or less.
The results of a browlift are usually visible once side effects fade, and will continue to improve over the next few months. The duration of the results can vary depending on heredity, lifestyle and other factors, but are usually long-lasting.
After a browlift, patients can enjoy a more youthful and relaxed appearance, as well as increased self-confidence for many years to come. Even as the effects of aging continue to progress, patients who have undergone a browlift will continue to look younger than if they had not had any work done at all.
A browlift is generally considered a safe procedure, although there are certain risks associated with any surgical procedure. Some of these risks may include temporary numbness, nerve injury, hair loss along scar edges, infection and bleeding.
